Question about the Belkin F5D7230-4 Wireless G Router
Swimmer replied to DiRt DeViL's topic in Networking and Hardware
most cable modems only run at 10mbps... so it is trying to "optimize" your connection... You can for it to 100 also.. i believe.. -
Have fun and be safe man.. dont be a stranger!

I am not a dway exert by any means.. their setup scares me.. if have an ethernet cable from the sat.. run it into the wan port of the router. then you should be able to connect all of your computers, via ethernet, to the router and share the internet.. php would know.. i believe he has this system and has it networked.. BTW welcome to the forum!

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/shutdown.mspx?mfr=true so you would go start-> run-> cmd-> then type shutdown -s -t 3600 which would shut down your computer in 1 hour. It may have changed... I think that sp2 will default to minutes instead of seconds.
-
If you have a router.. you can set this up.. other wise.. you can issue the shutdown command followed by a time from the command prompt and it WILL shutdown at that time.

NETGEAR. 802.11g Cable/DSL Wireless Router
Swimmer replied to Daiquirii's topic in Networking and Hardware
Mac address filters are not enough... They will keep the casual hacker out for a little bit until they figure out that all they have to do is clone the mac address of one of the computers on the network. I would still add WPA on top of that.. -
one of the dell widescreens.. the 20 is plenty big..

NETGEAR. 802.11g Cable/DSL Wireless Router
Swimmer replied to Daiquirii's topic in Networking and Hardware
yeah.. i am not 100% why it happens.. Maybe new firmware will fix it.. -
dont make your all of your IPs dynamic.. The servers should be set on the routers as static host so your forwards dont change..

Alright I have a simular setup at my home... I use a dlink and a nokia hardware router/firewall with smoothwall. What I have done is that dink(192.168.0.1) connects to the modem.. Then from port 4 it runs into the nokia with an ip of 192.168.1.1.. The DNS is handled by the dlink and DMZ is configured so that all traffic passes to the nokia. I have DHCP turned on for both.. but static ip address set.. The reason is that the dink is a wifi and I VLAN my switch so that no other ports are active or have access to the server segment.

NETGEAR. 802.11g Cable/DSL Wireless Router

the onboard print server are great when they work.. the problem, atleast with the USR model, is if you unplug, turn off, or do anything to the router.. it seems to crash the print server.. You will get a print cue that loops endlessly.. the only way to fix it is to reboot the router.. -
NETGEAR. 802.11g Cable/DSL Wireless Router

Netgear makes a decent product.. There are a few models that have a mind of their own which refuse to keep settings for some unknown reason.. I will check which model that was when I get back to my apt. As far as range goes.. It really depends on the environment that the router is going to be in. 2.4 ghz phones, microwaves, and other wifi routers can affect the performance. If you are looking for some other alternatives.. US Robotics makes a nice router.. http://www.usr.com/products/networking/wireless-product.asp?sku=USR5461 that I was able to get for $20 after rebates from compusa.. Linksys owned by Cisco also makes a solid product. Dlink is the other big name brand.. I have had so-so luck with their new products.. As long as you know what you want when you go and dont let the sales person talk you into something that you really dont need cause they are going to tell you how great 802.11n is.. you should be fine with what ever you choose. One other little thing to save you about $40.. the desktop doent really need to be wireless.. if possible use the router to hook up the desktop via ethernet. This will save you the cost of a pci wireless card and the connection will be a little faster than the notebooks.. -
yup not a problem..
-
what type of router do you have? DSL requires PPPoE to log you on to a dsl system.. my guess is that you need to turn that off and you should be fine.. I would just hold the Reset button on the router... That will reset the entire router now you just need to set up the wifi security.. BTW welcome to the forum!

This is possible.. but remember the TOS are still in effect.. hosting a server off a consumer connection could cause the ISP to terminate your account and could land you in some hot water..
-
I am pretty sure that it "installs" itself when you set up your internet settings for the first time.. I forget how to remove it. This may do the trick.. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;821980&Product=winxp have you installed sp2 yet?
-
my guess is that it is complaining about the fact that you are running a modem, most of which can only do half duplex, into a switch that is running a full duplex.. I wouldnt worry about it to much.. I have never really messed with duplexing but as long as your speeds are ok dont loose sleep over this... I would keep the switch at full duplex so you can send/receive to clients on the network at the same time.

Use this tool to check your cable modems settings.

that looks like a decent tool... i will give it a try.. -
if you have a router.. most of the time they have content filtering inplace.. Also the host file is a nice way to go..

huh.. that is really wierd.. I can see all of the posts.. but that error doesnt allow the buttons to pop up.. but then again it makes sence because you have to be logged in to have the buttons.. Fatal error: Call to undefined function: browser_detection() in /home/testmyn/public_html/inc/ads/inline_links_001.php on line 5 This all started after the down time a few days ago? It is a site issue not user that for sure.
