  1. that is a cached result.. try clearing the temporary internet files and browsing history on that computer..
  2. nothing is wrong.. It is going to very.. it is a radio.. therefore you are going to have interference.. have you tried doing a site survey and changing the channel that your network operates on?
  3. He could be right.. depending on the type of splitter.. the signal could be dropping enough through that 4-way to cause problems. I had the exact same problem when I first got my comcast.. I went out to home depot and bought a 3-way and installed it and lost my internet. a tech came out and installed a better one.. I know that ca3le posted on this topic before including what type to buy.. might do a search and see what you find.
  4. When i am messing with the Linux live cds.. the browsing is plenty fast and that is only using memory as a virtural drive.. but as soon as you close the program the memory address and contents are cleared.. i think.. I am going to have to look into that..
  5. it isnt the card.. it is the entire wifi system... 802.11g is good to about 26Mbps.. I have tested on the WRT-54g with an Intel 2200 wifi card on an Inspiron 8600.. To a server with different types of network cards. Here are some of the results.. for the overall throughput of the router on cat 5 it was 91.275 Mbps or about 11 MB/s so you are seeing normal speeds there.. On the other hand with wifi and WPA I saw 17.3Mbps. or about 2.16MB/s.. So you are faster at that.. This was done about 5 months ago on v.22 firmware.. Take a look at the attached info.. I plan to start running the tests on the new firmware once i get all my equipment back up to my new apartment.. If you like this type of info please let ca3le, the site owner, know! As the mods will start testing again.. So that would be throughput on a lan system.. As far as internet goes.. you should be able to get between 75-85% of the LAN speed on wifi.. you might want to try an tweak the settings for the wifi card using the guide in the Make It Faster forum.. They are normally set really conservatively so that the speeds on any network seem "fast".. edit: fixed a couple units...
  6. something might be trying to exploit that funtion.. I dont know.. but since DEP was designed to prevent bad code from running in certain important functions.. you might want to look into it a bit more.
  7. Are you going to fund this project?
  8. Depeding on what type of games you are going to run on this server.. makes a huge difference in price! I know battlefield 2 recommends 3.0ghz, 1.5-2gb of ram for a full game, 64 players. I have run a 16 player game on a 650mhz 512mb box before with no problems.. It all depends on what types of games you really want to run. I would suggest looking on ebay for some used equipment. I have seen 2.4ghz 1u server go for under $300.. you would just have to install linux or an OS and you would be up and running.
  9. This topic has been moved to Networking and Hardware. [iurl]http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=15265.0[/iurl]
  10. very cool.. nice lappy!
  11. My guess is that you qualify based on address, 15,000 feet to a Central Office.. but the physical infrastructure might not be in place. Just let the techs do their work.. I am sure that they will figure out something for ya.
  12. very welcome.. we work hard around here to keep the community in the shape it is in.. so that users have an enjoyable experience.
  13. alright I am going to go with virus/spyware on this one.. The windows you are seeing is DEP related.. Data Execution Prevention = DEP.. It protects from random programs calling commands and prevents buffer over runs.. I did you install anything real recent?
  14. yes.. it will remove programs.. but will not touch personal files.. Most of the time a snapshot is created when you install software..
  15. First welcome to the forum, rode2006. Here is the deal.. The Motorola 2442 is a VoIP gateway.. Which is good and bad.. It is good because it establishes QoS on your network so that you call quality is really good. It is also bad at the same time... You are going to get slower speeds to your computer because of it. My guess is that the Motorola box holds so much bandwidth in reserve so that you can make/receive calls without interference. Without dynamic allocation you are just going to get what you get as far as bandwidth goes. One of the other positive aspects of your set-up is that you are going to have better call quality than those Linksys boxes that you plug into to your router. Those dont use QoS and have to "share" network bandwidth. So your set-up is ideal for VoIP. Now how to get faster speeds to the computers.. It really depends on that gateway device. If you can connect it to the router then, I would download dd-wrt and establish QoS based on ethernet ports. Here is a guide on DD-WRT: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-12222 This will give your VoIP calls on the network priority over all other traffic on the network. It also means that if you are not making any calls you should have 100% bandwidth to the computers. What version of the WRT54G do you have?
  16. that is quite good..
  17. crossover will work.. like php pointed out.. just make sure you get the right cable.. they tend to cost more, if i remember correctly.. it has been a while since I have bought one..
  18. I think we have something like that in the guides section.. with a list of the most popular, on this forum, apps that are free..
  19. very cool addition! sign up guys..
  20. cant go wrong with antec..
  21. Roco is correct.. it scans only incoming..
  22. yeah.. "256-bit SSL encryption anchors powerful security".. that is what they say on their site.. which is better than nothing..
  23. u mocking me fallow?? Very cool php.. is that a usb print server? Might want to try this.. http://devices.natetrue.com/musicap/
