  1. very stable... the upgrades are really easy to do also..
  2. how about that and fedora core or debian... Debian is a huge iso like 14 disks but it is pretty popular.
  3. You dont have to like NASCAR.. but what these guys have set up is pretty impressive.. Kinda looks like APC's datacenter on wheels.. http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/08/09/first_look_inside_nascar_technology_center/
  4. I know there is a linux boot cd that operates exactly like partition magic.. just need to remember the name.. and it is free

I have seen this on my laptop.. when it is really hot in my room.. 80+ Try some compressed air around the cpu.. just to get rid of any dust.. I am sure that there is a thermal sensor some where in there... If it is a slim line Run away!! They are known for over heating.. the airflow is really bad in those cases... Will it boot if the case is open?
  6. any distro will work.. since 99% of it is the same.. The tricky part is the partition of the hard drive.. This would make a good guide..
  7. Alright.. there was some more buzz about this card on the net today.. I guess it uses an onboard linux subsystem to off load the packeting of the information from the CPU.. which would help a little bit.. I am still not sure how much.. I guess I would need to see benchmarks before I am sold.
  8. Have fun with it.. If you have any questions.. I have been using Suse 10 and 10.1 as my os for my servers.. So i should be able to answer any questions..
  9. ahh... that would explain it..
  10. Van Buren has the basic run down.. there are some things to consider.. with linux the kernel is compiled with default values.. if you change your values you either have to recompile the kernel or script them.. This is because as soon as you restart you computer the custom setting will go away as they are stored in memory. I have yet to find a reason to tweak RWIN on Suse 10 or 10.1.. The speed are faster by 100-200kbps compaired to my windows box.. it may be do to my antivirus/firewall... but still I am running the standard yast firewall.
  11. windows xp wasnt made to network boot.. server 2k3 was.. because has to be able to support SANs and HBA, Host Bus Adaptor. I dont know if windows XP was ever entended to do what he wants..
  12. huh.. that is what is listed in the userguide as the way to get onto the gateway... I will look into it later.. it should be you ip address .1 so if you ip address is 192.168.1.101 then the router would be 192.168.1.1
  13. 10k or 15k is going to be better than 7200... but yes.. it is still going to be pretty slow I still dont even know if it is possible.. there were some articles that said not possible from san.. but then there were a few using linux and TCP/IP that said maybe.. we will see i guess.
  14. what kind of drive are you using?
  15. I am going to have to look into it.. I know how to network boot solaris.. never really tried it with windows.. It is going to be really slow.. we use 2gb fiber.. and it is pretty slow.. also 7200rpm drives are not going to help ya.
  16. not a problem.. Open IE and type http://speadstream This should bring up the Router Web Gui.. From there log in and click on gateway. On the right click on Security.. The you are going to be looking for DMZ.. It should be listed under GAMING. Click on configure. At this point you are going to want to have you PS2 on and functional. Under Enable DMZ with this HOST IP address select the IP address of the PS2. Then you can either make it perminate or temp.. I would make it temp because the IP is going to change in the future.. so select the amount of time you want the rule to be in effect and click apply.. That should be it. If you have any questions just let us know.
  17. I am sure that there is a way to do a network boot for windows.. (different from installing windows on a network drive but I think this is more of what your question was anyways) The problem would be the time to set it up and the cost.. Not to mention that if you only have a 10/100 network the data transfer rates are going to suck. What this the original question.. Can I boot a machine from a network?
  18. First.. Welcome to the forum.. Alright I think I know what you are talking about.. You have a computer hooked to the router/modem combo with a ps2 also attached. When you try and join games, only in-progress ?, you are unable to connect. Are you familiar with port forwarding? The ps2 requires the following port to be forwarded to it.. * Basic PS2 Ports o TCP: 53 o TCP: 80 o TCP: 443 o As well as allowing ICMP The other option is to put the ps2 into the DMZ, de-militarized zone. This is what I would as it requires less configuration and there isnt really any security issues, that I know of, by doing this with a gaming console.
  19. ahhhh... looks good..
  20. looks pretty good... one of your links is dead for the demo movies..
  21. I thought that you had to buy a licence to run asp on a server.. Eitherway jamaicarocks you are going to have to code the formulas again. I dont know of a way other than converting the excel document into access database. Which by the way isnt really a database made for a production environment at all.. I would highly recommend looking into an IIS/Apache, MySQL/Oracle XE, and a programming language (jsp, asp, php) to solve this problem..
  22. thank you for that info.. I am sure that we, as a site, are looking into the problem..
  23. Danny_Boy_69 FIrst the screen has a reflective coating that will make the picture look better.. instead of just projecting it onto a wall.. However they are not cheap. Most projectors have a maximum screen size. This is due to the lens that is used.. I would check that first then make sure that you have enough distance from the wall to the screen to allow for the supersize screen.
  24. I would program it using php or some other server side script.. otherwise you are running into a security issue. Macros are known security issues. I would highly recommend not using them on excel.. Instead use a web form that the user fills out then from there do the calculations and return the results.
  25. It all really depends on what type of card you are going to run. You might want to take a look at this site.. http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/05/08/2006_graphics_card_buyers_guide_part1/index.html They are running a pretty loaded system on 560 watts of power.. you dont need that much.. 400watts should be more than enough.. that said you are going to want to get a decent power supply.. I personally like the brand Antec...
