  1. welcome to microsoft of 2006.. just about everything they are doing right now is being delayed, fixed, or patched.. I am really interested to see how this office 2007, IE 7 and Vista thing goes.. maybe this is why gates is stepping down?
  2. then call the tech support.. they might be able to get them to work.. or they will set up the RMA case for ya.
  3. So.. WD decided to settle lawsuit and part of the settlement is a piece of $30 software.. Settlement site for Western Digital: http://www.westerndigital.com/settlement/ Or.. westerndigital.com and scroll to the bottom.. on the bottom nav bar there is a link to the right called settlement.
  4. it depends.. it looks like the download is the ISO.. in which case, i know that winrar, detects it as a "zip" file.. That would mean that you would want to burn a image off the iso.. without extracting it.. I have never tried to extract then burn the extracted files.. I figure that if the checksum is good on the iso why risk the extract..
  5. it isnt trash.. it is a WAN issue.. the router is having problems picking up the ip address from the modem.. I would power cycle the router, then power cycle the modem.. then make sure that you have numbers under status -> wan.. if not release/renew.. Also you might want to try tech support.. On my 624+ i had the same type of problem.. they were able to get it connected.. there were a bunch of steps that they sent me through.. This is what I am talking about.. if you have something that looks like this then you have a problem.. If you can click them then you might want to run the set up wizard on the router..
  6. check your manufactures website for basic drivers.. then go to the manufacture of the specific card for new drivers.. Also please try and type clearer..
  7. static IP never changes.. most of the time it is giving on buisness plans.. and when DSL first came out, for the most part, a static ip was issued.. Dynamic on the other hand changes on a schedule.. the ISPs do this for a few reasons... static IP can lead to users trying to host webservers on consumer grade connections, which in most cases violates TOS... also with an "always on" connection it can lead to other secuirty problems..
  8. If your network connection is firewalled with the XP "firewall" remove it.. Dlewis pretty much said it.. just giving more info.. are you behind a router by any chance? You would have to allow VPN pass through if my memory servers me correctly.. BTW welcome to the forum!
  9. dlink dgl 4300.. alright go on to the management site.. click status on the top nav bar.. scroll down.. find WAN.. if there are no number there that is a problem.. Release and Renew.. What firmware are you currently running?
  10. Alright here is the second deal I found.. on dell's website.. I dont know if they will get better.. yesterday they were offering 50% off on monitor upgrades..
  11. alright.. might want to give this a try.. It sounds like you DCHP client is handing out new ips or just dropping you for a second every once in a while.. Since the last firmware release was in July of last year I would get that you have it.. I would reflash the router with a new copy, download it from linksys, and see if that helps at all.. I was able to find some older 3third party stuff.. but it looks like it was well before the july 2005 release. if that doesnt.. then try setting static IPs on the computer that are on the game all of the time.. that should prevent the disconnects..
  12. @ dlewis.. what are you talking about? @ asubaseball727 Pulling the graphics card shouldnt be an issue.. just make sure that you uninstall the hardware and drivers before you remove it.. Also make sure that you still have video.. very few dell have dedicated graphics... so my guess is that you installed this card on this machine? As long as you have an AGP, PCI, or PCI-E slot open you can put it into what ever computer you would want. Adding ram is really easy to do.. I would suggest crucial or kingston for their memory search feature. Figure out what you need.. then watch bestbuy, circuitcity, or some other local retailer for when the memory is on special. As far as hard drives go.. another easy thing to do. Master/Slave was for back in the day pretty much.. Now you have cable select which makes it a whole lot easier! Just put the hard drive in, connect the cable, check the jumper setting on the other drive and you should be good to go.

  14. Alright since we are getting toward the college student buying time.. I thought it would be great if we posted some of the better deals on computers.. Dell and HP are about a month or so away from starting their annual sale.. So.. I will start it off.. If are a bunch of posts and a lot of interest one of the mods will sticky this.. T6536 T6534 T5046 T3508 T3506
  15. it isnt hard to get working.. it is hard to keep working correctly..
  16. try.. swish http://www.swishzone.com/
  17. yeah.. but those are some pretty sweet effects..
  18. so yeah.. i guess the word on the street is that this has more effect than windows vista.. check out the video.. http://dl.tv/blogs/digitallifetv/archive/2006/06/22/14230.aspx
  19. again.. I am not sure what is included in the boot loader... for ff or ie.. most of the time extras or add-ons are loaded last at run time.. because they are not part of the original code..
  20. to the standard dd-wrt.. It was done a while ago.. however it required a custome built cable to upload the firmware to the router...
  21. there shouldnt be any more risk that normal if you follow the directions.. yes.. a little bit reduced functionally.. but that is due to the fact that the v5 only has 2mb of onboard ram where was just about every other version has 8mb..
  22. looks like some rather smart people found a way to install dd-wrt onto the v5 with out the use of a custom built cable... More detail can be found here.. http://www.bitsum.com/openwiking/owbase/ow.asp?WRT54G5%5FCFE
  23. hahah o well.. it was a good price..
  24. I have an 80gb western digital with their back up software, which i never use.. more on that later.. http://www.westerndigital.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=186&language=en That is what westerndigital offers.. It sounds a solution like theirs would work great for you.. Check out their faqs and search for backup.. The other option is if you dont want a rolling backup, something like a hard drive that automatically backs up ever night or two.. you could use CD/DVD as your medium.. I do this for stuff that doesnt change a lot. Pictures and important documents go on to the DVD and into a case.. This way if the back up drive does fail then I still have a copy.. I personally use a comabination of the two.. For stuff that is always changing I used a Samba storage server, basically a virtural hard drive. Then for my docs that are either finished or have not been edited.. they go onto a DVD-RW/CD-RW.. At the end of the school year.. everything that I did that year goes onto a DVD-R for safe keeping just incase i need a reference in the future.. Hope that helps a little bit.. Maxtor also has a solution.. however I have not used it..
  25. Like I said before.. If you want to go mac.. wait until the G5 moves to Intel, if it ever does.. Conroe is going to be one hell of a chip for Intel.. AMD is going to have to do something big to stay king.. My guess is that since they are dumping most of their old platform chips they are going to try and compete on the price point..
