  1. welcome back ISPgeek.. Also just to add a something.. you will be most likely added to a Blacklist that most ISPs maintain about people who abuse their services.. some times it is shared some times it is not.. so if you screw up on one consumer level service.. it end up that the only way to get service would be a dedicated line like t1..
  2. If i remember correctly the DOS mode just creates an ISO of the disk?? that is then moveable to other machines.. I would be careful cloaning system that way.. I dont know if you have been following what has been happening in the US with using clones/images of voting systems..
  3. I would still have a login screen.. There is just something that is freaking about not being able to lock your computer..

Just wait it is rumored that RC2 will have improved network connection yielding faster speeds... We will see
  5. This topic has been moved to Make it Faster.... [iurl]http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=16320.0[/iurl]
  6. Yeah.. it would work.. The speeds on the 54g clients, if you have any, might be slower overall..

  8. There is always some one looking for older parts for something.. I would keep a few sticks of the pc133 stuff.. as I run into some of those machines every once in a while. The networking gear is hit or miss.. I havent really followed token networking on ebay.. so I couldnt tell ya..

You have to burn the files as an ISO file onto a dvd.. then you can boot it and install it.
  10. The token stuff isnt going to get much.. however, the laptops might catch up to $300 depending on the condition they are in... Memory is all market dependent.. I wouldnt expect to much for the pc100 stuff.. as it has been a while since the last consumer products were shipped with SDRam..
  11. Congrats man!
  12. I know that Alienware talked about a system that would allow you to remove the video card and upgrade them... but I cant find anything on their site that says that you can do it.. My guess is that you can. Here is what I found on a different website : http://www.bay-wolf.com/videoupgrade.htm I am sure that the XPS system are upgradable through dell..
  13. hmm.. that is a little problem.. I know that dell outsources all of their on site tech support staff to a company in Texas.. The problem is that then they higher smaller tech firms to do their work.. I would call around and see if you can find anyone who is certified by dell to do repairs. As a last resort you could use the geek squad.. but you are going to pay though the nose. BTW Welcome to the forum!
  14. It is because the disk is dirty or damaged... the file fails i believe because the md5 check fails.. I have seen this on many xp disks in lab and some 2k3 server disks.. The best way to go around this is to try cleaning the disk.. if that doesnt work then you could try calling MS for a replacement or ones of those disk fixers..
  15. what program is it?
  16. saw this yesterday.. Fox news had a live demo..
  17. yeah you might want to do a scan on the computer.. The only thing off hand that I could think of is you are using some of those crazy toolbars.. that could increase the memory usage. I run about 25K for explorer.exe
  18. depends on where the short was.. my guess is that the miss seated one is gone.. but the other one could still be ok.
  19. The cyberpower is alright... I have had some bad expierencs with their desktop systems.. so they wouldnt be my first choice.
  20. that is a pretty solid connection for wifi on campus.. I will have to try some time this week.. I would be willing to be that it is faster that what I pull off..
  21. depends on how you define storage.. I have 60 onboard, 100 usb 2.0 external, 36gb on my production server (networked), 500gb on my home samba server via vpn.. Just shy of 700gb..
  22. havent had any problems with it..
  23. That could be.. If you live in washington.. they you are going to get a higher speed. It all depends on where your traffic is being routed to...
  24. Might want to look at this.. http://noclone.net/ if they are system files then I wouldnt even try.. That is just asking for problems..
  25. A few things to think about.. None of these laptop have dedicated video cards.. so you are going to be "sharing" memory from your overall system memory to run your video cards.. It is pretty much common knowledge that the GMA from Intel does not play games. It will play stuff from maybe 2000 alright.. but other than that it is going to play anything really recent. I think the best one that has been listed would have to be this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834114240
